What is gen_challenge?

A sister community to yaoi_challenge, het_challenge, and yuri_challenge, gen_challenge is an open fandom based com for gen fics and fanart and prompts.

How does it work?

1. Make a prompt

A prompt consists of a fandom, one or more characters, and an idea for a story or artwork. For example: Lord of the Rings, Eowyn and Merry, "Calm before the storm". You can see some examples from Round 1 here.

Anyone can leave a prompt, and prompts can be for any fandom. Leaving a prompt puts you under no obligation to participate further if you don't want to. So if you've had any plot bunnies that need a home, feel free to leave them here!

2. Claim a prompt

Prompts are then collected into a list and people choose which ones they want to use. You can pick any, as long as you don't pick your own.

3. Complete your work

Once you've got one or more prompts, you've got a deadline to create a fanfic or fanart on each prompt. If you can't finish it before the deadline, it's no problem to drop your claims.

Want to know more?

We're currently in Round 2, in the stage of leaving prompts. You can leave a prompt (or more) here.

Hello, all. As the "Princess of Publishing/Arch-duchess of Advertising/Marchioness of Marketing", I'm here on behalf of my fellow members of The Burping Troll collaborative writing group to promote our newest tale, Adamant.

Title: Adamant
Author: Sevilodorf, erinrua*, and Celebsul
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: n/a (this is not a "pairing" sort of tale)
Warning: only some mild violence
Disclaimer: Middle Earth and everything in it belongs to Tolkien. We of The Burping Troll are merely playing in the professor's sandbox.
Summary: The final part of the 'Precious Stones' trilogy, following 'Bloodstone' and 'Obsidian'**. Nik, the small uruk-hai befriended by Russbeorn, has sworn to do what no orc has done before: stand and testify to his innocence of murder after killing a man in defense of human life. But will Nik's truth overcome the lies of unscrupulous men? (Can be read as a stand-alone story.)
Author's Notes: The above summary was written by erinrua.
Feedback: Feedback is like manna to the muses. It would be wonderful if you could leave feedback in our guestbook.
Genre: Drama / Adventure
Fandom: Canon story set after the War of of the Ring. (All of the BT stories are set after the War of the Ring, actually.)

*erinrua was the winner of the TORN ORC award for "Best Fanfiction" this past January for her story The Last Grey Ship, which is also housed at the BT site.

**Obsidian was a semi-finalist in the 2004 Mithril awards.

x-posted to various other Tolkien fanfiction communities.

P.S. The Middle-Earth FanFiction Awards are approaching. Do be sure to check out the tales and to vote when the time comes!

The Baftas are intended to try to bring a quality voters' choice award into the Tolkien fandom. Statement of Intent.Collapse )

[Disclaimer: The Arrangers behind Baftas wish to remain anonymous to minimise fandom politics, fangirling and to promote an award system based on quality over quantity or number of friends.]

Mae govannen.

I appologise for the off-topic post, and will understand if this is deleted, but I just wanted to advertise a fairly new Tolkien/LotR based RPG which is looking for more players. Anyone interested should pop over to apavannente - even if you aren't interested in joining, you might enjoy reading it.

Thank you for your time.

Well hi....
This is a fabulous idea for a community! That said, I'm delurking with a fic.

It's a couple of chapters and a few pages long, so I'm just going to drop the link instead of pasting it here. It's up at ff.net here.

It's a Legolas/Gimli friendship fic, about their last little while together in the Undying Lands (so it's a tad depressing and deals with character death, I'll warn you about that now, heh). I hope you like it!
